Dog walking is part of the daily routine – but if you live in Budapest, it’s good to have not only a leash and a treat with you, but also a little local knowledge. A city walk is not only exercise, but also a shared discovery, experience, and if done well – style. To do this, it doesn’t hurt to know the rules, know where to go, and make sure that your dog feels good – under all circumstances.
Dog walking – it does matter, where and how
In the capital, each district regulates the use of public spaces with dogs, so what is allowed in one park may be prohibited in another. As a general rule, leashes are mandatory, except in designated areas. In order to avoid fines, it’s always worth checking what the district allows – you can easily find this on the local government websites.
Where should we walk?
If you want to venture outside the city limits, here are some of our favorite dog-friendly places in Budapest where your four-legged friends will be happy.
- Kopaszi Dam – a well-maintained waterfront promenade with pleasant shady areas
- Városliget – large spaces, shady trees, and a dog run
- Margaret Island – a great place to walk on a leash, plus the air is good and the atmosphere is great
- Normafa and János Hill – if you’re looking for a bit of an “excursion” experience beyond a city walk
- Római-part – a bit further out, but a great place to walk and splash around
- Gellért Hill – shorter, but ideal for an intense walk, the view is a bonus!
Important: always have a poop bag, fresh water, and it is worth taking care of your dog's weather-appropriate clothing during the summer months - especially if you are leaving on a cool morning or planning a longer walk.
Style and comfort are important too - not just for you
A lot can happen during a walk in the city: the weather is unpredictable, the terrain is varied, and an unexpected adventure is always possible. That is why at Brizlo we design accessories and clothes that are practical, comfortable, and look good. Our raincoats protect not only against the rain, but also against the dirty city slush. They are easy to clean and well ventilated. We have special collars and leashes - they are soft, airy, and add color to the atmosphere of the walk.
In summary
Dog walking in Budapest can be stressful... or enjoyable, if you do it right. Follow local rules, choose safe, green spaces, and keep your dog comfortable. And if you want to spice it all up with a little style, at Brizlo you'll find the pieces that will help make walks truly happy moments together - no matter what neighborhood you live in.
